While we have had the new Robinair Model 42-1234 to Recover, Recycle and Recharge air conditioning units for the new R1234yf Freon for several months we thought it timely to share some information on this new advanced air conditioning refrigerant.
Several 2019 model vehicles and onward are changing Freon in the air conditioning units to R1234yf.
The reason behind the change is because refrigerants (Freon) can linger in the upper atmosphere for years.
For example: R134a may take up to 10 years to breakdown into a non-greenhouse gas. Twenty-five years ago, this was seen as considerable improvement over the 100-year-plus lifespan of R12. But R1234yf is a further advancement over R134a, as it takes only three to four years to break down in the upper atmosphere.
In other words Freon type R1234yf is a new environmentally friendly refrigerant (Freon) that has a 99.7% lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) than its predecessor R134a.
Furthermore, it is the industry accepted solution for a low GWP refrigerant and we are pleased to be able to offer this additional air conditioning service.
